| Miscellaneous implications (Dec 05)
The keynote for the Online Information conference this year (2005) was 'Everything is Miscellaneous'. More in the blog. Confidence in blogs has been boosted by comments during Online Information, for example by the panel on e-publishing. I still think of this website for graphics. Maybe I will get to work out how to get them into the blog later. |

| OhmyNews published two of my stories, before and after the event.
One on Open Documents and Social Source. Second one on HighWire Press and free journal articles online. Both included the keynote by David Weinberger - "Everything is Miscellaneous" They show up well on Google News, for a few days anyway. My guess is that few people write about what actually happened at events. Most news writing is based on press releases beforehand. |

Next graphic based on an imagined Online Information for next year. The keynote speaker could be Tim O'Reilly, or someone who knew enough about Web 2. Although 'everything is miscellaneous', the organisers of Online Information seem to be adding segmented bits of technology at the back of the hall to attract extra visitors to the events. I can no longer understand what is meant by the changes on colour for the carpet. Thirty years ago there was only 'data-processing', according to a source who did not wish to be named. the 'miscellaneous' description could cover everything except 'content'. My own interests are now mostly in quality assurance and e-learning. Somehow 'content management' has grown alongside 'documents and records' so 'quality assurance' could explain some purpose for this. 'Learning' is something that happens anyway in many situations but is worth some study as such. Apparently Tim O'Reilly thinks that 'publishing' is replaced by 'collaboration' in Web 2. So there are some theatres as part of the miscellaneous sector. Titles could change and talks could be repeated. In 2004 there was a 'roving mike' for the e-publishing panel. There could be more of them. Powerpoint can be on the web all year round. the actual event is a chance for interactivity. |
