Draft news stories for OhmyNews

The book "Everything is Miscellaneous" could open up a space to claim that a form of knowledge is possible covering both "learning" and "quality". I think academics often regard them as distinct. The link is still to Amazon.com although it is now also at Amazon UK. It seems to be about understanding as well as knowledge. David Weinberger was keynote speaker at Online Information a couple of years ago. The keynoye speaker for 2008 has not been announced so I am imaging David Weinberger again. I don't think UK publishing "got it" the first time.

I am looking at words from both a quality discussion from the Deming SIG at the CQI and a meeting about learning organisations at the Work Foundation. There is a Google Doc version and a PDF enabled for comments in Reader 8.

Please let me know if you would like to edit the Google doc. will dot pollard at gmail dotcom

Currently I send most messages to the Guardian Talk , starting with 'what is QR?'

The Deming SIG will meet in 2008 on June 12, September 11, and December 4. . The September 2007 meeting started a discussion on a model of transformation and on language processing.

The Work Foundation meeting was about the implications for leadership of recent changes in organisation. "It is argued that we are in the midst of a period of change equivalent in scale to the Industrial Revolution. This shift, largely driven by developments in Information and Communications Technology, changing social values and global competition for business and services, is forcing organisations to review and modify their structure - usually from a bureaucratic hierarchy to some form of network, matrix or partnership."

This is interesting in taking the technology as a driver and in having a fairly strong view of organisation as such. The issues raised in September will continue to be discussed during the rest of the year.

In 2008 there are two interesting events about e-learning. There is a conference on Networked Learning in Greece and also iLearn, a conference and exhibition in Paris. The iLearn themes include "New approaches to quality as learning process"

Other events are commented on in the blog.
