The main area this site relates to is the introduction of PDF for communication, starting with hard copy such as litho. This is coverted at the websites for Acrobat Services.

In the second PDF decade, Adobe are concentrating on PDF within organisations for documents and forms. The description of this keeps changing with experience. 'e-paper' and 'e-forms' have both been dropped. 'Intelligent documents' is the most recent term.

'Content Masnagement' is another buzzword that crosses over with documents and IT. However it has turned up both through Gilbane as a major part of Seybold Amsterdam and as a show alongside Online Information in London. The issues describe in a general way the sort of situations where Adobe server software could be used. This is worth studying as the issues are probably not as new and unique as they appear and also there are alternatives. One issue is that Adobe has started server software with prices that many people cannot afford. The first PDF decade started with $50 as the charge for Acrobat Reader so there is much to look out for.

NEW Jan 5th 2005. Acrobat 7 now supports some commenting tools in the free Reader. The Professional version of the paid for software has to be available to set this up. A demo file has been created. It invites comments on how such a facility could contribute to learning.
